Besides being mildly obsessed with comic books, using broom as a verb, and my hair; I’m also addicted to femslash. When the characters and their stories are extremely well written in femslash, not only does that get me hot and bothered, but it also brings me a deep satisfaction that these same characters portrayed in television cannot.

Despite it being 2009, the bigwigs behind most television series can’t seem to equate lesbians with sex…unless of course we’re talking about porn. To sexualize two lesbians who are solely into eachother and not waiting for any man to get a piece of the action, especially on primetime tv, seems to freak these guys out.

To make things worse, when the lesbians are actually in love and in a healthy relationship, the tv writers desexualize the women even more by making one of the women pregnant. I won’t go into details because Sarah Warn form Afterellen.com explains this so much better in her article TV’s Lesbian Baby Boom. Let’s just say I’m pretty darn sick of this…hence my fascination to femslash.

Whether it’s Xena and Gabrielle, Buffy and Faith, Black Canary and Oracle, Oracle and Catwoman, Oracle and Huntress (she gets around that Oracle), and my new favourite Otalia, I get to see the characters play out the way I wish they could on tv. They’re three dimensional characters, albeit in a one dimensional world on the Internet…you know what I mean.

On a completely unrelated note, I’m sincerely going to try to blog every day, especially since Feral Geographer is offering to hand-knit socks as an incentive for any blogger who makes it through the month!

    HAND-KNIT SOCKS PEOPLE…WOW!

I wonder if I could get sock puppets too…hmmm
