We all know I’m a comic book geek…well I’m all other kinds of geek too but let’s just focus on this particular type for this column shall we?Katherine Kane, also known as Batwoman, made a splashy comeback a few years ago when the media caught on that Greg Rucka would be writing her character and GASP! making her a lesbian. One of the few lesbian superheroes in DC comics, thanks to Rucka’s writing she’s finally been taken seriously.
Geekboys may have been attracted to her for her red hair and Sapphic tendencies, but she’s proven she can handle the bat costume, and since their attention hasn’t wandered off; she’s now getting her own title. And as a geekgirl, I cannot wait.
My only hope is that her ex-girlfriend, Renee Montoya, also known as the new Question, will make a few appearances. After all, if you’re going to portray an authentic lesbian, regardless of whether you’re a superhero and fighting off super villains, you still have to have an occasional fight with an ex.
